Christ made a curse for us:
Galatians 3:10, “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the Book of the law to do them.”
Galatians 3:13, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.”
1 John 3:4, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law = (commits lawlessness): for sin is the transgression of the law.”
1 Corinthians 5:21, “For He (The Father) hath made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin: that we (mankind) might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”
Made a curse is to express an action that is completed or continued. To be made is to begin to be, to come into existence, as implying origin, either from natural causes, through special agency, result, or a change of state, place, etc. After announcing the curse, the cure would be Jesus Christ, the sacrificial Lamb. He died without spot and blemish.
The curse,
Genesis 3:19, To Adam God said, “For dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” And in the days of Noah, it is written that it grieved God that He had made man, ver.7, God said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth.”
Genesis 6:5, “God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Verse 13, God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”
Evil thoughts and imagination survived as eight persons passed over the flood. God’s curse, physical death, and eternal destruction followed Noah, his family, and future generations across the flood.
God’s curse, man’s sin, and the punishment to follow were reconciled and settled forever. The plan of salvation was set into motion by way of the Messiah; there would be no other way.
Jesus being made a curse in no way implies that he was cursed. God’s curse with our punishment was transferred onto Jesus Christ. The son of man took man’s guilt and lawbreaking onto Himself, thus redeeming us from the law’s curse and the judgments to follow.
1 Corinthians 5:7, “Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:” The shedding of Jesus blood, bought us out of slavery. Our Creator came to us in the form of a man,
1 Tim.3:16, “God = (Jesus) was manifest in the flesh.”
To think that Jesus was guilty of sin is absurd.
1 Peter 1:19, “With the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
1 Peter 1:20, Jesus, “Was manifest = (revealed) in these last times for you.”
He came of His own free will; He loved us, suffered, and died so we could live.
Jesus said, John 5:36, “For the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.”
The sins we commit are subject to God’s wrath. The law required that all men suffer the punishment for sin, a just punishment inflicted on account of the transgression of the law.
“Made a curse;” The curse was to be occupied by, dealt with, and its work finished by Jesus Christ. He would cleanse forever the sins of humanity.
1 Peter 1:19, Jesus was “A Lamb without blemish and without spot.
Acts 8:32, “A Lamb dumb = (voiceless) before his shearer.”
Jesus uttered with His dying breath, John 19:30, “It is finished.” The punishment and the death of Christ became the pathway by which all men could escape. “Come! enter here,
Hebrews 10:26, “There remaineth no more sacrifice for sin.”
John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.”
What’s meant by “But by me?” It’s His shed blood, His death, and His resurrection. The finished work of Jesus Christ will elevate us from the curse to the redemptive blood of our Savior.
Galatians 3 and 1 John speak to those who attempt to gain salvation through the works of the law, referred to as the “Curse of the law.” No man can keep the law, for if we break one point of the law (over 600 of them), we violate the whole law, which will then keep us under the curse of the law; in this, we have committed lawlessness.
1 John 1:10, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him (God) a liar, and His word is not in us.” It is plain enough; it is simple enough, and Jesus has fulfilled the whole law.
Matthew 7:14, Jesus said, “Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Jesus said many times, “Follow me.” His is the bright morning star, the Daystar.
Galatians 3:1 begins with, “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently (clearly) set forth, crucified among you?” Have we become modern-day “foolish Galatians?”
Verse 2, “This would I learn of you, received ye the Spirit by the hearing of faith? having begun in the Spirit, having suffered so many things. He therefore that ministereth to you the (Holy) Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the hearing of faith?”
Verses 6-7-8-9, “Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen (you and me) through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, in thee shall (all) nations be blessed. So, then they (both Jew and Gentile) which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.”
Abraham lived in a time of few luxuries, underscored by extreme heat, cold, and physically hard toil for the things needed to sustain life. He journeyed and set his camps in pagan environments yet maintained a close walk with God. Why? Because he believed in God and had great faith in Him. For this trust, God was faithful, standing with and going before him.
Verse 11, “But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for the just shall live by faith.”
Verse 13, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
Galatians 3, This only would I learn of you, received ye the Spirit by the works of the law? Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain, if it be in vain?
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law? (answer, NO) For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, “Cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.”
That the law justifies no man in the sight of God, and the law is not of faith: but the man that doeth them (that is the works of the law) shall live in them. Christ being made a curse for us: for it cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree.” It was not Christ that hung from the tree, but our sins; man’s curse died at Calvary.
Summary: Christians do not receive the Holy Spirit by the works of the law or any other good works they may work for. We are not made perfect by any works of the flesh. Those who minister to us, teaching us of the miracle of salvation, do it NOT by the works of the law but by grace, faith, and love for Jesus Christ.
The law justifies no man because the law is not of faith. The Son of God, made in the image of man, washed away our sins and redeemed us back to Himself. In this, we will receive His righteousness.
Matthew 5:17, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.”
Satan and all who follow him, and his will are doomed to everlasting destruction.
