Is Jesus The God Of The Old Testament?

In this article, I will compare Old Testament verses with New Testament verses in order to prove that Jesus Christ is the God of the O.T., and He alone is the one spoken of by the prophets. We, as Christians, must receive Jesus Christ, as an original Being; uniting two natures in one person, the divine and the human. To say this is impossible is to limit God’s power. Because this statement is true, we must ask ourselves, what was His reason be for doing so? If it can be confirmed that Jesus is God, then it cannot be disputed by the cults who claim falsely that He Himself created.

Because salvation is a matter of mercy, and not justice, the LORD has the right to settle this matter according to His own pleasure. We must show the right faith, which must be independent of any human works. A sound foundation will support the belief of any Christian doctrine. In this we must diligently search the Scriptures. We must not as many do, use darting intellectual fancies and various passions to expound private views. This is neither wise, nor safe.

Is Jesus Christ Jehovah? This a most fundamental question. The answers to these questions are made conspicuous throughout Scriptures. Personally speaking, if Jesus is not God, then I am finished. I will be banned from heaven forever. But if He is, then the calamity of everlasting hell is upon the heads of those who glorify Him not as God, and have degraded Him to a mere creature. Scriptures will establish the answer to this question. Yet there will always be those who retain their ill-formed opinions and will always be shackled by certain prejudices, never surrendering to God’s word. I will put down the information and you can draw your own conclusions.

Jesus said,

Luke 24:44-45, “All things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning ME. Then opened He their understanding.” This is extremely important that He substantiated the fact that it was JESUS the O.T., Prophet’s, and psalmist wrote about.

The first passages presented are O.T. quotes, which are referred to by the N.T. writers. I will substitute the word “Jehovah” for, “LORD,” because it is acknowledged by scholar’s world wide to be the true rendering wherever the latter is printed in capitals, that is, upper case.

Isaiah 43:3, “For I am Jehovah thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior.” Compare with,

2 Peter 3:18, “Our Lord and Jesus Christ.” This epithet descriptive of Christ in the N.T. is borrowed from the O.T. Peter states that Jesus is our Savior, Isaiah states Jehovah is our Savior.

Zechariah 12:10, “I = (Jehovah) will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn.”

John 19:38, “And again another Scripture said, they shall look on Him = (Christ) whom they have pierced.” with John 19:34, “the soldiers with a spear pierced His (Christ’s) side.” Also,

Revelation 1:7, “He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him.”

Zechariah states that it is Jehovah who is pierced. We know it is Jesus who was pierced on the cross.

Isaiah 43:11, “I, even I, am Jehovah: and besides me there is no Savior.”

Acts 4:12, “For there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” Isaiah wrote, there is no other Savior but Jehovah, yet we are told there is no Saviour but He the person of Jesus Christ.

Psalms 16:8, “I have set Jehovah always before me; because He is always at my right hand, I shall not be moved.”

Acts 2:25. “For David speaketh concerning Him = (Jesus,) I foresaw the LORD always before my face; He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.”

Peter applies his quotation from David directly to Christ, as the one spoken of. David speaks of Jehovah; Peter applies it to Christ.

Isaiah 40:3, “The voice of him = (John the Baptist) that crieth in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of Jehovah, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”Matt.3:3, For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one = (John) crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord = (Jesus,)” make His paths straight.”

Isaiah said the person crying in the wilderness was preparing the way for Jehovah. Matthew is saying that John the Baptist was that voice in the wilderness who was preparing the way for Jesus.

Isa.6:3-5, “one cried unto another, and said, Holy, Holy Holy is Jehovah of Hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory — mine eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of Hosts.”

John 12:41, “These things said Esaias when he saw His = (Jesus) glory, and spake of Him.” The context of each passage is important in this example.

Isaiah 6:9-10, “hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not, make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and convert and be healed.”

John describes the works of Jesus, and said the people believed not, ver.40, quoting Isaiah, and what Isaiah saw, was the glory of Christ, and spoke of Christ when he said,

Isaiah 6:5, “mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” The conclusions are unavoidable. Jesus is the King, Jehovah of Hosts.

Exodus 17:2, “Moses said unto them, wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah.

Psalms 28:56, “They tempted and provoked the Most High God.”

1 Corinthians 10:9, “Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. The same historical facts are being alluded to here. Both Moses and David said the Israelites tempted Jehovah. Paul stated that it was Christ they had tempted.

Psalms 68:17-18, “The chariots of God are — even thousands of angels. Jehovah is among them as in Sinai, in the holy place. Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast let captivity captive; thou hast received GIFTS for men.”

Ephesians 4:7-8, “unto every one of us is grace given according to the measure of the GIFTS of Christ. Wherefore he saith, when He = (Christ) ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave GIFTS unto men.” The Psalmist addresses Jehovah as the one who ascended on high, leading captivity captive, and received gifts for men. Paul applies these words to Jesus as the one whom David meant.

Isaiah 8:13-14, “Sanctify Jehovah of Hosts Himself, and let Him be your fear, and let Him be you dread. And He shall for a sanctuary: but for a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, to both houses of Israel.”

1 Peter 2:7-8, “Unto you therefore which believe He = (Jesus) is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builder disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient.”

According to Isaiah, Jehovah is a stone of stumbling, etc. According to Peter, Christ is that stone of stumbling and the rock of offense.

Jeremiah 23:24, “Do not I fill heaven and earth, said Jehovah.”

Ephesians 1:23, “The fullness of Him = (Jesus) that fills all in all.” He who fills heaven and earth, is He who fills all in all.

Psalms 89:9, “Thou rules the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.”

Mark 4:39-40, “He arose, and rebuked the wind, and the said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And thee was a great calm. — and said one to another, what manner of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey him?”

Proverbs 16:4, “Jehovah made all things for Himself.”
Col.1:16, “all things were created by Him (Jesus,) and for Him.”

Isaiah 9:6, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Might God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”

Luke 2:11, “For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”

Revelation 19:12, “He (Christ) had a name written that no man knew but He Himself.”

Revelation 3:18, “I (Jesus) counsel thee, etc.”
Revelation 1:8, “I (Jesus) am Alpha and Omega — the Almighty.”

John 8:58, “Before Abraham was I Am.”

Acts 3:15, “and killed the Prince of life.”

Psalms 45:6, “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever, the scepter of thy kingdom is a right scepter.”

Hebrews 1:8, “But unto the Son He (the Father) said, Thy throne, O God, (meaning Jesus) is for ever and ever, a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.”

In many Bibles this has been changed to read, “God is thy throne.” Whatever that means? I still haven’t figured it out!

Psalms 31:5, David wrote, “Into thy hands I commit my spirit; thou hast redeemed me, O Jehovah, God of truth.”

Acts 7:59, “And they stoned Stephen, calling upon, and saying Lord Jesus receive my spirit.

Genesis 17:1, “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, Jehovah appeared to Abram and said unto him, I am the Almighty God.”

Revelation 1:8, “Jesus said, “I am Alpha and Omega, — the Almighty.”

Revelation 22:8, “the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angels.”

Revelation 22:16, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you.”

1 Chronicles 28:6, “Jehovah searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts.”

Rev.2:23, Jesus said, “I am He which searches the reins and hearts.”

Proverbs 3:12, “For whom Jehovah loves, He corrects.”

Revelation 3:19, Jesus said, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.”

Isaiah 40:10, “Behold the Lord God will come with strong hand, and His arms shall rule for Him: behold his reward is with Him and His work before Him.”

Revelation 22:12, “Jesus said, “Behold I come quickly; and my reward is with me to give every man according as his work shall be.”

Deuteronomy 10:17, “Jehovah your God, is God of gods, and LORD of lords.”
Jer.10:10, “But Jehovah is an everlasting King.”
1 Tim.6:15-16, Speaking of Jesus, “The blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords;”

Revelation 17:14, The Lamb (Jesus) shall overcome them; for He is King of kings and Lord of lords.”

Revelation 19:16, “He hath on His vesture, and on His thigh a name written, King of kings, Lord of lords.”

Jeremiah 10:10, Jehovah is the true God, He is the living God.”

1 John 5:20, “We are in Him that is true, even in His son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

Romans 9:5, “Whose are the father, and of whom, as concerning the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever.”

For those who say Jeremiah, 1 John, and Romans are speaking of the Father as being the one true God, let me respond with this. O.K. lets say there is only one true God, He being the Father, and Jesus is of a lesser sort of god. We know that men are called gods, Satan is called the god of this world, so, if Jesus is not the only true God, then He is a lesser god as men and Satan are called. We all know that men and Satan are false gods. So my question is; is Jesus a false god also? If not, then He must be the true God, for there is only one true God. You decide.

Hopefully this has been helpful to you. This is a slightly different approach to the question, “can we prove that Jesus is the God: The Jehovah of the O.T.?
