Names and Offices Secret, Wonderful

Names and Offices:

Secret, and Wonderful:

His name is, “Secret”, and “Wonderful,” both found in the Old Testament.

Judges 13:3, Manoah and his wife Zorah, were told by God, “thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.”

Judges 13:18, The angel of the LORD, (this is the messenger of the covenant, appearing in the likeness of a man) is speaking to Manoah, the father of Sampson.   Manoah asked the angel of the LORD, “What is thy name?” The angel of the LORD said to him, “Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?” This is the same Hebrew word “Wonderful,” found in,

Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: — his name shall be called Wonderful,”

Manoah asked the angel of the LORD a question, “What is thy name,” but the answer was not forthcoming. God is not obligated, to reveal that which is not in our best interest, His time, or in His will. This incident happened about the year 1400 B.C.

Isaiah would reveal further information concerning the meaning of the name secret, 700 years later. This word secret, as an adjective, means, concealed or hid from the knowledge of all persons except the individuals concerned. In the book of Judges, it is used as a noun, and means, a thing not discovered, and therefore unknown. God will not reveal His own secrets. This title was not to be revealed until Isaiah revealed that it would be connected to the Son of God.

Isaiah wrote about 698 B.C. seven hundred years after the book of Judges. In Judges, the name of the LORD was not ready to be made manifest. The LORD in Isaiah’s time was now ready to reveal further information about this name. He said, His name shall be called, “Wonderful.” Wonderful means, miraculous, incomprehensible, He will fulfill, accomplish, be consecrated, separated, and devoted.

Psalms 119:129, “Thy testimonies are wonderful:”

What marvelous discoveries can be made from the study of Scripture, discoveries of both Father and Son.

The majesty; style; purity; and unity of the Godhead should have a conviction upon us concerning them. Yes, the Son of God is Wonderful. He is our salvation, He is, Immanuel, God with us. He is both a child, and the mighty God;
is there any wonder He is called “Wonderful.”
