The Land Covenant

The Land Covenant, God’s promise to Israel; Deut.30:5-10. Outline of the key provisions.

Deuteronomy 30:5-10, “The LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) possessed, and you shall possess it; and He (God) will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.

And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed (sons,) to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live (have everlasting life.”

And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon your (Israel’s) enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.

And your (the Jews) shall return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all His commandments which I (God) command thee this day.

And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as He rejoiced over your fathers.

If thou shall hearken unto the voice of the LORD they God, to keep His commandments and his statues which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.”

We all know that the Jews were dispersed in times past because of their disobedience, it is called the Diaspora, or the Dispersion. The Jews were divided after Solomon’s reign, invaded at first by the Assyrians, followed by the Babylonians, then the Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, etc.

The dispersion today from the land of Israel is the Father’s judgment on this people for, first not receiving, than killing their Messiah, the Son of God. The destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D. marked their final demise. To summarize, they rejected the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and all who witnessed unto them.

So what does the present and future hold for them concerning this promise?

Deuteronomy 30:3, “That then the LORD God will turn (bring you back from) thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, where the LORD thy God hath scattered thee,” this was God’s unconditional promise to return them to their land.

Isaiah 59:20, “The Redeemer (Messiah) shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob (Israel.)”

Isaiah 11:11-12, “And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people which shall be left.” — And He (God) shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.”

Jeremiah 23:3-8, “I (Jesus) will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds.” — The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I have driven them; and they (the Jews) shall dwell in their own land.”

See also Ezekiel 37:21-25.

In 1948, the Jewish National Council proclaimed the birth of the modern State of Israel. 3500 years had passed since a Jewish state existed. Even to this day, God is not finished with Israel. Once the ‘Fullness of the Gentiles,” has come in, meaning all of God’s elect have been saved from among the Gentiles, then,

Romans 11:26, “All Israel shall be saved,” and all ungodliness will be turned away from them.

Here is God’s promise of a land covenant to His people the Jews.
