Something To Think About:

Let’s talk about the verses found in Mark 14:32, and,

Matthew 24:36-37, “But of that day and hour knoweth (knowns) no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father alone. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

Knoweth or known in Greek is used as a past participle and partakes of the properties of a noun and of a verb. Known or knoweth means to perceive with certainty, to understand clearly; to have a clear and certain perception of truth, fact, or any thing that actually exists. What the Lord is saying to his disciples “At this time you, the angels and even the Son do not have this knowledge.”

What the verse does not say is, even in the future this mystery will not be revealed.  The apostles understanding at that time was that of the natural men, and not that of the spirit. There was no reason for anyone at that time in history to know the day or the hour the Lord would establish His kingdom.

Jesus said to his disciples,

John 16:12, “I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot BEAR them now. Howbeit, when He (the Holy Spirit) the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever He shall hear (from the Father) that shall He speak: and He will SHOW you things to come.”

Let’s look at two words: The first is “to bear;” here it’s used as a metaphor and mean to receive now, to understand now.

The second word is “show,” it speaks of the future: Other examples of how the word is used in Scripture follow;

Romans 15:21, “But as it is written, to whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.”

Show means to announce, to make known, to declare, to tell; as a transitive verb, and absolute, and in various connections, to relate, to tell, further examples are,

Mark 5:14, “And told it in the city.”

Mark 5:19 “Tell them.”

Acts 14:27, “They rehearsed (reported) all That God had done.” Acts 15:4,”They declared (reported.)”

Acts 1:6-7, “They (the disciples) asked of him, saying, Lord, will you at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel? And He (Jesus) said unto them, It is not for you (the disciples) to KNOW the times of the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power.

Verse 8, “But you shall receive power AFTER (or when) the Holy Ghost is come upon you.”

To know in verse 7 is used in an inchoative sense, meaning to come to know, to gain or receive knowledge of; where again the preferred implies a completed action, and is often to be taken as the present time, to know, also passive; but is to become known.

So the words found in Matthew, Mark and Acts imply that the day and hour of the Lords return to establish His kingdom was not to be known by the disciples, angels or the Son, but would be, from Scripture revealed to others in the future.
